There were 33 books attributed to Jewel or containing a response to one of his works identified in the PLRE. Of those, 19 were printed in English and 14 in Latin.

Only nine identified works were close matches. Ten were considered partial matches, and the majority of the identified works were a different work by Jewel. Jewel's Apologie appears to have been a more popular work to possess over his Defense of the Apologie. This makes sense when one considers the Defense is a response to Thomas Harding's Replie.

This work appears to have been most popular with scholars and clerics; 22 works belonged to scholars and 16 belonged to clerics. Six were owned by Members of Parliament, three belonged to court officials, two to churchwardens, and the last four identified works belonged to a lawyer, an estate landowner, a diplomat, and a statesman.

While Jewel's Apologie was widely popular, it appears that his Defense was less so although, with 53 identified works attributed to him or related to his works, it is clear he was popular overall.
